The entry into motherhood is a major life change, full of ups, downs, and everything in-between. The Motherhood Cafe is a place for new and expecting parents to get information, to find support, and to get perspective. I believe that:

• Happy, confident, self-aware parents lead to happy, confident, self-aware children.
• There is no one right way to raise a child. For virtually every child care issue, there is more than one approach that will work -- it's just a matter of figuring out what the best approach is for you.
• Parents deserve high quality, down-to-earth information from supportive sources. A good perspective helps us to feel more confident as mothers.

Most of the content on this site is derived from my own research and learning (I have a PhD in Sociology) on maternal health, motherhood and parenting, and parenting culture.

I started this website so that women could get good information about the stages and phases of becoming a mother -- pregnancy, the identity change, the emotions and experiences that go along with being a new mother, learning how to parent, issues related to feeding, etc.

Because I also have an interest in modern day parenting culture -- the social and cultural environment within which parenting takes place -- this site is also a place to discuss, critique, and debate issues of modern parenthood and parenting culture.
